Chelle Destefano is a multi-medium and multi-disciplinary Deaf woman artist working in performance art, textiles, drawing, painting, sculpture, installation and mixed media

Poetry Performances series I - Audism

Chelle is currently exploring Deaf issues through poetry performances in Auslan. She videos herself in a performance room at home since the COVID-19, and through her performances she aims to raise Deaf voices. She is Deaf herself and uses Auslan as her main language. Chelle uses multi-mediums and multi-disciplinary practices to inform Deaf issues through textiles and performance

Comparison of singing Imagine by Lennon in Auslan between a Deaf person (Chelle Destefano) and a hearing performer (Andy Dexterity) who sang this on The Voice Australia, and where he had culturally appropriated our Auslan language and used fake Auslan, gestures.
